She also very kindly sent a contribution towards the Blue Poppy Appeal. ![]() She loved the poppy that Eileen had knitted and hoped that all of residents were keeping safe. Residents were thrilled when they saw that Jacqueline had seen their picture and left a lovely comment for them on their Facebook Page.ĭame Norma Major kindly wrote back saying she was very interested to hear about the Blue Poppy Appeal. Jacqueline is widely regarded as one of the UK’s best remembrance artists. St George’s Court made their own interpretation of the Blue Poppies, inspired from a Jacqueline Hurley picture. At Primrose Croft, the residents recycled an old jigsaw by painting the pieces blue and arranging them on paper into the shape of poppies. Pearl talked about it to the Cambridge Homes and it’s residents, who agreed how wonderful it would be if they could lend their support by creating their own Blue Poppies.Īt Buchan House, residents made their own display of blue poppies using clay and putting them up on the wall in their garden. Pearl recently met Kim at Whittlesey yard sale where Kim was selling her knitted poppies. Pearl, the Lifestyle and Wellbeing Lead for Cambridge had first seen the wonderful work that Kim was doing on the Blue Poppy Appeal Facebook Page. Dame Norma is the wife of former Prime Minister John Major, in addition to being a well-known philanthropist. Pearl also sent Dame Norma Major a Blue Poppy that had been knitted especially by Resident Eileen. Regional Lifestyle and Wellbeing Lead, Pearl wrote on behalf of the Cambridge residents to Dame Norma Major to see if she had heard of this wonderful new project, letting her know how the residents got involved. Some of the care homes that have recently shown solidarity with the project include Buchan House, Primrose Croft and St George’s Court Care Home. It also helps to remember those affected by, or currently battling the coronavirus pandemic.
